Position Overview

Reporting directly to the CEO, your primary role is to advance the development of the RIA’s member and partnership retention and growth strategy. As a member of the RIA’s Senior Leadership Team, you will play a key role in helping shape the future of RI in Canada by growing the community and actively contributing to the association’s member service delivery strategy.

Accountabilities

  • Develop and implement a membership growth and retention strategy that supports the growth and long-term resilience of the RIA.
  • Research, plan and implement new market initiatives and strategic partnership retention activities.
  • Research prospective members/sponsors.=
  • Oversee and build relationships with prospective RIA members to ensure a steady pipeline of new members.
  • Pursue leads and move targets through the sales cycle.
  • Develop and pitch sponsorship/partnership packages for RIA events, research and other projects.
  • Develop suitable strategies, processes and policies to execute on and manage the above responsibilities.
  • Play a leadership role for the organization, this may include providing strategic input to the CEO, providing guidance to staff, sharing your industry knowledge and team leadership.
  • Collaborate with others on the Leadership team in directing and coordinating the activities of the Membership Analyst.
  • Establish membership goals that contribute to the growth of the RIA and the protection and strengthening of its brand and reputation, in consultation with the CEO.
  • Prepare all sales contracts and liaise directly with accounts receivable.
  • Represent the RIA at external events.
  • Additional ad hoc responsibilities as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in business development, membership growth or strategic partnerships, ideally in a membership-based organization, nonprofit or related field.
  • Proven success in building and executing growth strategies, including membership and sponsorship acquisition.
  • Experience managing client or stakeholder relationships, with a track record of driving long-term engagement.
  • Knowledge of sustainable finance, responsible investment, or ESG (environmental, social, and governance) issues is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with the Canadian financial ecosystem, including key players in investment management, finance and sustainable business practices would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and pitch sponsorship or partnership packages to potential collaborators.
  • Track record of meeting or exceeding revenue generation and membership growth targets.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role with responsibilities for strategic decision-making, team collaboration, and staff guidance would be an asset.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, from senior executives to prospective members and sponsors.
  • Proficiency in identifying leads, advancing them through the sales cycle and closing deals.
  • Adept at researching markets and tailoring outreach to align with strategic objectives.
  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, marketing, or a related field is required.
