Certification for RI Advisors and Professionals
The Responsible Investment Association (RIA) provides third-party certification for qualified professionals working in Canada’s responsible investment industry. We offer two designations: Responsible Investment Advisor Certification (RIAC) and Responsible Investment Professional Certification (RIPC). Both of our designations are listed in the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) directory of designations here.
How to become a Certified Responsible Investment Advisor or Professional:
- Pass the RI Essential course offered by the PRI Academy.
- Be an active RIA Member.
- Must agree with the Statement of Purpose of the RIA, and be in good standing with any regulatory bodies you are part of.
- After certification, you are required to complete annual updates to ensure your expertise is current.
RI Essentials is eligible for 10 CFA CE credits, 10 Advocis CE credits, 10 IIROC CE credits, and 10 FPSC CE credits.
Cost of Certification
The RI Essentials course is currently priced at ,245, and RIA Members pay 6 (20% discount). Since you are required to be an RIA Member to qualify for certification, we recommend that you become an RIA Member before enrolling in the course so you receive the 20% discount. About the RI Essentials course
RI Essentials is a 12 – 15 hour comprehensive examination of responsible investment. It was designed for Investment Advisors, Wholesalers, Portfolio Managers and others interested in developing expertise in the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors in the selection and management of investments.
It’s a structured learning experience featuring up-to-the-minute case studies, step-by-step theory, interactive tools and financial modeling. It has been designed to help maximize a practical application of ESG concepts in the shortest possible timeframe.
